MISSION 

Our mission is to nurture meaningful community engagement in partnership with the Petaluma Police Department. As a nonprofit, we secure funding through grants and donations in support of impactful, innovative programs that extend our collective ability to serve;  focusing on programs that empower youth, seniors, and other populations of concern. We work to inspire exemplary citizenship and strengthen relationships in our community. WHAT WE DO

The Petaluma Policing Foundations chooses ideas or programs based on the following criteria (in order of importance):

  1. The Foundation sponsors individuals or programs working toward restorative justice.

  2. It provides meaningful benefits to the community, with a focus on youth and seniors.

  3. The Foundation supports the Petaluma Police Department’s outreach efforts to build trust and foster relationships, which helps reduce crime and improves community safety.

  4. The Foundation creates early, positive experiences for youth to build long-term trust and respect for law enforcement.

  5. It delivers education and information to the public about the role, contributions, and value of the Petaluma Police Department.

  6. The Foundation supports police department needs that benefit the community, including training, equipment, recruiting, and professional development for officers.

  7. It collaborates with and supports programs led by other agencies or organizations for greater community impact.

  8. The Foundation supports programs at risk of being cut from funding by the City Council, highlighting the need for external support.

  9. The Foundation leverages community volunteers to enhance its effectiveness and inclusivity.

Examples of programs we've supported:

    • Community Academy

    • Petaluma Night Out

    • Every Fifteen Minutes Distracted Driving and Railroad Safety Program

    • Senior Scam/Fraud Prevention Workshops

    • Shop with a Cop – partners officers with students from low-income families to shop for holiday gifts

In response to the current needs of our pluralistic society, a group of concerned community members formed the non-profit Petaluma Policing Foundation to help support the proactive community-centered policing philosophy of the Petaluma Police Department. Our goal is to improve the quality of life in Petaluma by providing complimentary public-education programs and safety services to our community.
